DIY Fabric Softener

Want to healthy-up your laundry routine? Removing toxins from your laundry care is a huge step toward better health and it doesn’t have to be difficult or expensive. All you need for this recipe is epsom salt, baking soda & essential oils!

Most detergents and softeners on the shelf today are filled with toxic chemicals that we touch and breathe in every time we use them. Ohhh, but it smells so good! Put it down, Susan. Walk away.

The dangerous ingredients in these products have been known to cause skin irritation, respiratory upset, hormone disruption and even cancer. The U.S. is very lenient with the chemicals they allow to be used in cleaning and skincare items. Want to check out how clean yours is? Download the ThinkDirty App to see for yourself and then run back here and make the switch!

You will love this super simple fabric softener recipe! It combines epsom salt, baking soda and essential oils to naturally soften clothes without all the harsh chemicals. I mix it all up in a stainless mixing bowl and then store it in a closable glass jar (kind of like this) with a scoop. The scoop I use measures about 2 tablespoons and I throw it in over the dry clothes before I start the wash cycle. For heavy duty loads, I also add plain white vinegar in the softener spot on the laundry machine.

Can’t ditch the habit of using dryer sheets? Consider using dryer balls instead! You can add more oils in for an extra boost of scent & softness.

Let me know if you make this recipe and what you think about it! I’ll post the rest of my laundry routine items soon.

DIY Sanitizing Spray This is so simple & HIGHLY e DIY Sanitizing Spray

This is so simple & HIGHLY effective. You’ll want to use this spray on hands and other small surfaces. So don’t stress about those sold out shelves! Instead, grab these ingredients:
.
Vodka (the higher the proof, the better)
dōTERRA’s OnGuard oil blend
Fractionated Coconut Oil (or sweet almond)
Spray Bottles

Check out my Amazon Shop linked in my bio for quick purchase links.

This #diy disinfectant combines ethyl alcohol & OnGuard, making it a powerful combo to kill and inhibit growth of bacteria & other 🦠. You want the proof (alcohol content) to be 100+. You technically could use rubbing alcohol, but it tends to dry out your hands and has a more chemical smell, where the Vodka doesn’t.

Here’s what I recommend:
.
Buy a 3pk of 30ml spray bottles (dōTERRA sells them)
.
• Measure out 1/3 Cup Vodka
.
• Add 20 drops OnGuard in each bottle
.
• Divide vodka among the 3 bottles
.
• Top each bottle with 1-2 teaspoons FCO.
.
• Shake it up & spray.
You could absolutely make this in a big spray bottle or in a continuous mist bottle and spray larger areas, but the small one is perfect for keeping on you all the time.

My simplest, go-to teething support... because our My simplest, go-to teething support... because our little guy is in full-force teething mode.

Lavender Touch (roller) rolled over the outside of the jawline, top & bottom. Lavender has natural anti inflammatory properties, which calms discomfort & relaxes tension. It is calming to our nerves and emotions (hear me, mamas?) = sleep baby, sleep. Bonus perk - it’s a natural antihistamine, so that runny nose that always comes along with a new tooth can chillax, too. (Should I mention its antiviral oil, too? 😉)
.
OnGuard toothpaste... yep, right on the gums. It is fluoride free and contains clove oil, which is gently numbing to the gums. I take a tiny dot on the tip of my finger (or a silicone teether) and rub over the new tooth area. I keep the little toothpaste sample packs in the diaper bag. Check my stories for an old post where you can see them.

Other favorites for teething: Copaiba & Serenity.

Did you know that diffusing is the fastest way to get essential oils into your system? We can do this to shift a mood, support clear breathing or cleanse the air. Our olfactory nerve & sense of smell can do powerful things for our bodies!

Mabel was so brave today. As a baby, she had torti Mabel was so brave today. As a baby, she had torticollis, meaning a muscle in her neck was so tight that she constantly tilted her head to one side. We had months of physical therapy (& lavender oil to relax the muscle), and she was cleared before she was a year old.

A dear friend of ours is a chiropractor and while we’ve taken the whole family in for adjustments for years, Mabel has absolutely refused to let him check her.. not even just feel her neck. I’ve tried and tried (and bribed and bribed), but no-go.

Today, I was heading over for an appointment and I passed back this kids roller bottle by dōTERRA called Brave. I encouraged her to roll it on and breathe it in, that this oil might help her feel brave enough to get checked out.

Y’all, she climbed right up on that table!! No crying, no convincing.. and she spoke to him with no nervousness. Even the chiropractor looked at me like, 👀 wow.

The influence that essential oils can have over our emotions is powerful.. and fascinating to me. Are you interested in learning more about how oils & emotions work? Experience, science, protocols, etc... I feel it coming in more posts & classes 😉
